Dahua's SmartPSS (Smart Professional Surveillance System) is a centralized desktop software solution for managing a wide range of Dahua security devices, including IP cameras, access control units, and intercom systems. Its primary function is real-time monitoring, supporting up to 128 live camera feeds simultaneously, making it ideal for both residential and commercial surveillance environments.
SmartPSS is purpose-built for Dahua hardware, providing a versatile platform for monitoring devices across multiple locations. Users can customize multi-channel layouts, prioritize key areas, and switch between live view and playback with ease. The software also supports batch device configuration, automatic discovery, and firmware updates—streamlining administrative tasks and ensuring system consistency.

Advanced monitoring and alerts
SmartPSS supports motion detection, tamper alerts, and event notifications for supported cameras. The built-in alarm center allows users to configure real-time alerts and maintain detailed event logs, enhancing situational awareness. With full PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) control, users can dynamically adjust camera angles, zoom levels, and focus on critical areas as needed.
Unified system connectivity
SmartPSS enables streamlined deployment through automatic device discovery, IP address scanning, and batch import and export of devices. The system maintains stable connections with auto-reconnect functionality in the event of network interruptions. Though direct third-party integration is limited, Dahua’s broader DSS platform offers SDK and API options for advanced integrations.
Desktop experience and usability
The user interface is designed for both novice and advanced users. Features such as instant playback, drag-and-drop camera arrangement, and e-map integration enhance navigation and response times. Layouts can be easily adjusted to highlight critical views, and synchronized playback of up to 36 channels enables efficient review of past footage.
Transition to SmartPSS Lite
SmartPSS has been officially discontinued for future development, but users are encouraged to transition to SmartPSS Lite. It requires a computer with an Intel Core i5-6500 processor or equivalent, 8 GB of RAM, and at least 256 GB of hard drive space. The software supports 64-bit OS and performs best at a resolution of 1280 × 800 or higher.
